Skye Railway Timeline
1885 Work commenced on building Skye Railway near small village of Edinbane.
1890 Representative of Skye Railway visits Ffestiniog Railway
1891 'Large England' tender locomotive delivered to site in 'Works Grey', repainted to current livery and named 'Cymraeg Lady'.
1894 Work on Skye Railway ends after reaching Portree and Uig. First passenger train.
1895 'Cymraeg Lady' derails near Portree, only minor damage caused fixed with fast track repairs. Workshops officially opened.
1900 Work on extension to Waternish begins. First run of 'The Mineral'.
1905 Extension is completed.
1908 Further extension to Dunvegan starts.
1913 Extension is completed.
1914 Outbreak of World War One.
1916 Railway closed to prevent damaged to 'Cymraeg Lady'.
1919 Railway reopened to celebrate end of World War One.
1923 No. 2 'Skylark' built in railway's own workshops. 'Cymraeg Lady' given overhaul.
